While out on our ride yesterday we saw a hill. We looked at that hill and said 'let's climb it'. Today we did. While cycling over we laughed at how things have changed for us, how we used to avoid hills like this one and now we seek them out.
At the bottom of the hill there was a sign. Something about a water something or another. Reservoir. The road up was blocked off to traffic so we went around and under the barricade leaving us to start on a crazy grade from a standstill. Sam clipped in and was gone, like the proverbial kid in a candystore. I actually heard him hoot. I know better than to try and stay with Sam on long ascents so I watched him go then turned my attention to the scenery. To the north and a little east is the Marine base - wild expanse of nothing (well nothing you can see. I'm sure it's dotted with the simulated enemy - that seems to begin at an ebb line with base on one side and sprawl on the other. The hills are covered in bramble and warm weather flowers and at some point the hill (Bennet Hill it's called. Sam just found the name on his awesome Telus B'Berry) flattens and the view stretches out to the East. Can't see the Ocean to the west, which says a lot given that we're only a couple miles from it - many hills between us and it.
Thinking a lot about all our loved ones as we get closer to unleashing the beautiful beast on Tuesday.
